[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]IKEA Malm dressers were originally recalled in June 2016 due to the deaths of several children and the violation of United States voluntary standards. After the death of Buena Park toddler, 2, was announced recently, IKEA is re-announcing a recall of 29 million chests and dressers. The store is offering full refunds or wall mounting kits for anyone who contacts them.
An attorney representing the Buena Park family has made the charge that IKEA did not properly notify customers affected by the recall. According to the family, they provided IKEA with home and email addresses, but never received any communication about the recalled dresser.
According to IKEA, at least 1 million dressers have been returned for a refund or retrofitted with wall-mounting kits. Over 8 million Malm brand dressers, the kind involved in the death of the Buena Park toddler, were sold between 2002 and June 2016.
If your family has purchased a chest of drawers or dresser from IKEA in the past twenty years, ensure that the furniture is properly mounted to the wall to protect your children. The list of recalled products from IKEA can be found here.
