[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), fatal accidents in California have been on the rise. 2,859 fatal crashes in 2014, 3,123 in 2015, and 3,324 in 2016. Where do those crashes occur? Pretty much everywhere according to this interactive website from the NHTSA. Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties have the most fatal accidents in the state.
NHTSA also publishes the causes of fatal accidents. In 2016, the leading cause of fatal incidents was speeding, a factor in nearly 18 percent of the crashes. Driving under the influence was a distant second at about 11 percent. Data also show that the younger the driver, the higher the crash rate. Though most crashes occur in urban areas, driving in rural areas is actually more dangerous. Urban centers have more vehicles and more crashes, but rural areas have a higher incident rate of fatal accidents per resident.
